In pastoral England, a grieving father gives his daughter a birthday present.
Centuries later, she is all grown-up and desires something of her own. Something so she feels less alone.
And maybe this is how the world ends...
Getting Closer is a poetic new play about the beginning, the end, myths, mistakes, and living under the spectre of man-made disaster. It was originally written on a residency at Poole Lighthouse, and has since been developed with support from MAST Mayflower Studios, Masterclass, and Eastern Angles. Previous drafts have been longlisted for Theatre 503's International Playwriting Prize and shortlisted for RSC's 37 Plays.
